The stage is nearly set for Three Years of Fear, as more than 70 CAST student actors and crew members head into show week for one of CAST Schools’ signature events.

The 2026 production of Three Years of Fear takes the stage during the week for special performances staged for 9th graders across the CAST Schools network, along with a performance open to the community on Thursday, September 3, at 7 p.m., in partnership with the Carver Cultural Center. This year, 10 student interns have helped lead the production—taking on meaningful responsibility behind the scenes alongside their peers bringing this powerful story to life.

Adapted from the bestselling book by San Antonio author Lorenzo Gomez III, Three Years of Fear chronicles Gomez’s middle school years growing up on San Antonio’s Westside in the early 1990s. Through stories from his adolescence and letters written to his younger self, the production explores fear and anxiety alongside the perspective and strategies Gomez gained later in life.

For the students bringing those stories to the stage, the production is also an authentic learning experience of its own. Actors, crew members, and student interns have collaborated across CAST campuses to create a professional production for a real audience, putting student voice and agency at the center of the work.

See their work come to life on September 3 and experience Three Years of Fear for yourself.
