Alumni Spotlight: Alanis Stewart
During her time as a student at CAST Tech, Alanis took advantage of the opportunities offered, from earning 75 dual credit hours, to participating in internships every summer throughout her high school years. Alanis cited that both the culture of career readiness and her supportive teachers at CAST Tech put her in an advantageous position going into college following her graduation in 2025.
Today, Alanis is pursuing two degrees at the University of Texas San Antonio, Computer Science with a concentration in Software Engineering and Art. Thanks to her credits earned during high school, both majors were already halfway done, which allowed Alanis to easily pursue both majors. Furthermore, Alanis noted that this opportunity was made possible by earning several scholarships, the UTSA Presidential Scholarship, the Rey Feo Scholarship, and the SAEP Scholarship. Though Alanis is a busy student, juggling two majors and commuting between the main and downtown UTSA campuses, Alanis still finds time to participate in events and hackathons throughout the year.
This past summer, Alanis participated in the Students + Startups program and landed an internship with the local nonprofit Any Baby Can (ABC) of Southwest Texas. Through this internship, Alanis facilitated a complete website overhaul, revamping their online space by designing web pages, implementing new tools, and reconfiguring the backend to best support the website. Additionally, Alanis used her design skills to create new assets to support social media posts, posters, presentations, newsletters, and website management. Alanis shared that this internship allowed her the flexibility to learn through this experience. This school year, Alanis plans on continuing to balance her school work with creating art that she loves. In the future, Alanis hopes to secure another internship next summer, and ultimately, find a job where she can contribute her designs to a company that is also making a profound impact.
